If you have never had acupuncture before, knowing what happens before you book makes the first visit easier. Here is how appointments work at EAST Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine in Sacramento.
Start With a Free 10-Minute Phone Call
If you are not sure whether acupuncture is right for your situation, you can book a free 10-minute phone consultation with Dr. Stretton before scheduling a first visit. It is for questions that administrative staff cannot answer.

How to Prepare for Your Appointment

Complete your intake form and bring any recent lab results or test reports.
-
List all medications and supplements (include brand + dose).
-
Wear loose, comfortable clothing or bring shorts.
-
After treatment, take it easy — many patients feel deeply relaxed or pleasantly energized.
-
Hydrate and allow your body to integrate the healing effects.
Nervous About Needles?
It's normal to feel nervous. We use sterile, single-use, stainless steel needles, thinner than a strand of hair. Most patients are surprised at how easy and comfortable it feels. For those who are needle-sensitive, we offer needle-free options like acupressure, cupping, or gentle energy therapies.
Insurance, FSA & HSA
We do not directly accept insurance, but acupuncture is often an eligible expense for FSA, HSA, and HRA accounts. We provide superbills you can submit for potential reimbursement. Coverage depends on your plan, so check with your provider — many plans cover acupuncture for pain, stress, fertility, and nausea.
